Master percussionist Tupac Mantilla begins the third summer of the famed World Rhythm @SJW program today, co-sponsored by Stanford Jazz Workshop and PERCUACTION. In this intense but enjoyable week-long immersion program, students work with Tupac to discover not only the secrets of rhythmic vocabulary and the techniques of percussion instruments, but also how deeply connected we are to rhythm in our everyday lives. Tupac takes his students through basic rhythmic perception and body percussion all the way through complex interlocking rhythms of many music cultures. Integrated with the famed SJW Jazz Institute, the World Rhythm @ SJW program brings students from all over the world together to study with some of the greatest jazz artists working today.
