Savannah Harris

Drums, Jazz Institute Advanced Package

Savannah Harris is a New York City-based drummer, composer and producer. Raised in Oakland, California by musician parents, she gravitated towards the drums early, and began laying a foundation for an expansive and versatile sound. Steeped in a jazz tradition, Savannah views its connection to all forms of folkloric-based music as central to her approach. While she’s frequently heard touring with jazz luminaries Cecile McLorin Salvant, Christian McBride, and Kenny Barron, she also has contributed to projects by indie and experimental artists Georgia Anne Muldrow, Helado Negro, Nick Hakim, KeiyaA, and Standing on the Corner. Most recently, Savannah collaborated with creative music heavyweights Angelika Niescier and Tomeka Reid on “Beyond Dragons,” released on INTAKT Records. Her newest project is ØKSE, a collective with Mette Rasmussen, Petter Eldh, and sound artist Val Jeanty. Savannah was a featured guest in conversation with esperanza spalding on ALL ARTS’ series “Generational Anxiety,” hosted by writer Bianca Vivion, where they discussed the relationship between music and healing. Her solo drum performance piece “With Inner Sound, Truth” was commissioned by Issue Project Room as a tribute to composer Ruth Anderson. Savannah cites her work with Geri Allen, Jason Moran, Ambrose Akinmusire, Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross, and Or Bareket as defining and central to the development of her voice on the drums, and beyond.
