Two Weeks, Two Experiences
Week one immerses you in Jazz Camp, where a structured curriculum is tailored to your skill level and provides a clear path for development. In week two, you transition to Jazz Institute, designing your own course of study from a wide range of classes in improvisation, ensemble work, arranging, theory, and more. Together, the two weeks create a powerful balance of direction and discovery.

Focused Small Ensemble Training
Work closely with world-renowned jazz artists and educators to refine your musicianship, strengthen your improvisational skills, and develop leadership abilities through intensive combo rehearsals and performances.
Extensive Engagement with Acclaimed Artists
Learn directly from leading jazz musicians through daily masterclasses, musicianship training, music theory sessions, and specialized presentations. At Jazz Institute, your experience expands with nightly jam sessions alongside faculty and fellow musicians.
Customized Instruction for Your Growth
At Jazz Camp, courses are assigned to match your skill level, giving you a strong foundation for growth. At Jazz Institute, you’ll choose classes that align with your interests and goals, from arranging and improvisation to jazz history and professional development.

The Advanced Two-Week Program is designed for high school musicians ages 18 and under, by audition only.

Week 1, Jazz Camp
Sunday from check in (11:00 a.m. for residents, 12 noon for commuters) – 6:00 p.m.
Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Showcase 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Saturday classes 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Week 2, Jazz Institute
Sunday from check-in (11:00 a.m. for residents, 12 noon for commuters) – 6:00 p.m.
Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

All classes and performances are held at the Braun Music Center on the Stanford University campus, 541 Lasuen Mall, Stanford, CA 94305.

Admission to the Advanced Two-Week Program requires an audition recording. Each submission is carefully reviewed to ensure placement in the ensemble that best matches your level and supports your growth.
Once you register, you’ll receive detailed instructions via email and your SJW dashboard. Recordings are due within two weeks of registration, and placement is confirmed only after your audition has been submitted. Participation in the two-week program is only confirmed once the Jazz Institute audition has been passed.
Accepted instruments for the Advanced Two-Week Program include:
- All brass instruments (trumpet, F horn, trombone, baritone, tuba)
- All woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone)
- All strings (violin, viola, cello)
- All rhythm section instruments (guitar, piano, keyboards, vibraphone, bass, drums)
- Vocalists are welcome
