Steve Blum is a California native, once again based in Los Angeles after 9 years in the Bay Area. Steve has had a diverse musical career as a performer, educator, music director, and accompanist. He began playing piano at the age of 5, and much more recently has added a unique and deep style of synthesizer playing to his repertoire of sound.
Steve has degrees in jazz performance from CSU Long Beach and California Institute of the Arts, where he studied and played with Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, Dave Roitstein, Joe LaBarbera, Larry Koonse, Vinny Golia, and Ghanaian master drummer Alfred Ladzekpo.
An active sideman, Steve has recorded on dozens of albums with artists based in both LA and the Bay Area. He has also released several albums of his own music which represent a unique blend classical minimalism, electronic music, and jazz.
