Guitar – Jazz Institute, Advanced Package
oining the SJW faculty for the first time this summer, Yotam Silberstein made an indelible impression on the American jazz scene even as a student at the New School, when he made the finals in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition. One critic wrote of Yotam at the time that his “tone was exquisitely old school, but his playing is fresh, fiery, and bursting with joyful exuberance. Musically, he’s one heavy cat.”
A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, Yotam has collaborated and recorded with a wide variety of great jazz artists, including the late James Moody, the Heath Brothers, Roy Hargrove, George Coleman, David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Paquito D’Rivera, Christian McBride, John Pattituci, and many others.
Yotam’s mastery and interests extend beyond jazz and bebop into blues and world music, particularly Brazilian genres. He composes for his own groups and for film. His most recent release, The Village, came out in January on the Jazz & People label.
