Yosvany Terry Afro-Cuban Sextet
Pure Afro-Cuban joy, from the traditional to the visionary.
Afro-Cuban saxophonist and chekeré virtuoso Yosvany Terry has had a remarkable jazz journey in the U.S., beginning with his first visit to SJW in 1995. Since then, he’s been a sideman with artists such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Eddie Palmieri, Chucho Valdes, Taj Mahal, Branford Marsalis, Paul Simon, and many others. In recent years, Yosvany has come into his own as a leader in the world of Afro-Cuban jazz, both onstage headlining with his own band and in the academic world as the Director of Jazz Ensembles at Harvard University. Yosvany has assembled a blazing band of top artists, several of whom are joining him on the faculty of SJW this week, to present his new compositions and arrangements.
