Ride the jazz time machine to 1965
Victor Lin: 1965 Revisited
Ride the jazz time machine to 1965
On a magical night in 2009, pianist and violinist Victor Lin took SJW half-a-century back in time to 1959, a watershed year for jazz. This year, Dinkelspiel’s our time machine and the destination is 1965. It was the year of Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage,” Horace Silver’s “Song for My Father,” and John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme.” Victor and his virtuoso bandmates are the perfect tour guides for this adventure; Dr. Lin is dedicated to passing on the jazz wisdom he received from mentors like Kenny Barron when he teaches at venues like SJW and Manhattan’s prestigious Calhoun School. Don’t miss this chance to visit an amazing year in jazz history, when the sounds you know and love were just being born.
