att Nelson is a Brooklyn-based saxophonist and educator. Described by Pitchfork Media as ‘one of the more unpredictable virtuosos in New York’s underground’, he is consistently involved in a wide rage of musical projects spanning Jazz, New Music, Noise, and Rock. He is currently a member of the celebrated saxophone quartet Battle Trance, the heavy noise and doom-inspired trio GRID, as well as the cosmic jazz-inflected band Elder Ones. He also regularly performs as a soloist, utilizing effects pedals and amplifier feedback with his saxophone. He released his debut solo LP ‘Lower Bottoms’ in 2014, which Paste Magazine described as ‘soulful and introspective, if not explosive’. Prior to his move to New York from Oakland, CA, he recorded and toured extensively with the experimental pop band tUnE-yArDs. He has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Moers Festival, Winter Jazz Fest, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Sasquatch, and many other premier venues and festivals in New York and around the world. Matt Nelson is a Vandoren artist.
