Masterful artists at the top of their game.

“The heart of his success lies . . . in the forthright connection he makes with an audience”
~ New York Times

Joshua Redman Quartet

Masterful artists at the top of their game.

Grammy-nominated saxophone master Joshua Redman is renowned for his sound and his boundless creativity. In this highly-anticipated performance in the sonically spectacular Bing Concert Hall, Joshua performs with the legendary quartet featured on his seminal 2000 recording, Beyond (Warner Bros.). Released when Josh was just 30, Beyond and its follow-up release, Passage of Time (Warner Bros.), signaled a new level of creativity and emotional depth for this amazing virtuoso and his bandmates. In the nearly 20 years since then, Josh has deepened his musical relationship with all of these colleagues, collectively and individually. With bassist Reuben Rodgers and drummer Gregory Hutchinson, Josh established a new frontier of performance that has honed their already supple intuition to extraordinary levels of group interplay, resulting in Grammy-nominated recordings such as Back East, Compass, and Trios Live (all on Nonesuch). As Josh has developed into one of the jazz greats, he’s collaborated with jazz legends Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and so many others. His return to the SJF has special significance, as he shares a long history of involvement with the Stanford Jazz Workshop, joining the faculty at regular intervals, since becoming an alumnus years ago of SJW’s famous summer jazz camps. Expect an exceptional performance from this group of musicians, who have redefined the jazz quartet genre.
