est known as the founder and director of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, Joan Chamorro is a multi-instrumentalist who appears on more than sixty recordings with different groups from the Spanish jazz scene.

Chamorro studied saxophone at the Barcelona Conservatory under the mentorship of professor Adolf Ventas. As a member of the Big Band del Taller de Músicos, he performed at all of the major European music festivals. He has also played with the Big Band de Bellaterra, John Dubuclet’s Big Band, the Big Band Jazz Terrassa, Eladio Reunion-Tete Montoliu’s supercombo, and Orquesta de Radio Television Española, with whom he backed Manhattan Transfer and Stevie Wonder.

He works on various projects with the Orquesta del Teatre Lliure, and spent a year collaborating with the theater group Els Comediants, with whom he performed in international festivals in cities including New York, Santiago de Chile, Paris, and Venice.

Chamorro has worked with such renowned musicians as Slide Hampton, Tete Montoliu, Frank Foster, Gary Smulyan, Dick Oatts, Bebo Valdes, Ralf Lalama, Scott Hamilron, Nicholas Payton,Teddy Edwars, Frank Wess, Jessy Davis, Dennis Rowland, J. María Farras, Perico Sambeat, Lluís Vidal, Randy Brecker, Carmen Lundy, David Mengual, David Xirgu, Mike P. Mossman, John Mosca, Bart Van Lier, David Allen , Bobby Shew, Judy Niemack, Lew Tabak, Toni Belenguer, Joan Monne, Xavier Figuerola, Carme Canela, Jo Krause, Joan Diaz, and Albert Bover.
