Woodwind – Jazz Camp Week 2

For the past 25 years, tenor saxophonist/pianist/composer Jessica Jones has led the Jessica Jones Quartet, a pianoless group that showcases her original music. The Quartet has several recordings out and has played many U.S. festivals. Their current release, “Moxie,” received four stars in Downbeat, and Ms. Jones has also been featured in JazzTimes magazine. In addition to working and recording with the Quartet, Ms. Jones is active as a sideman, and composed an opera as well as numerous jazz vocal works. She has worked with Joseph Jarman, Cecil Taylor, Bo Diddley, Don Cherry, and Peter Apfelbaum as well as a variety of Haitian, Caribbean, and African bands. She is an innovative jazz educator and consultant, working with children on improvisation, composition, and oral traditions for Jazz at Lincoln Center, Stanford Jazz Camp, Jazz Camp for Female Instrumentalists (Pretoria, South Africa), the Vision Festival, Brooklyn Friends School, and others. Ms. Jones has worked with Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp, Jam Camp West, the City of Oakland, and Jazz at Lincoln Center developing music programs for youth, including JALC’s JazzGirls Day program.
