Piano – Jazz Institute, Advanced Package
beloved SJW faculty member since 1999, Jeb brings his passion for jazz piano and history to his teaching. His technique is nothing short of astonishing, and his mastery of all styles and eras of jazz piano playing is no less amazing. Jeb recently published a critically-acclaimed two-volume set of books for Sher Music, entitled An Approach to Comping, which jazz piano master Mark Levine called “the best book on comping there is!”
In the course of his college carreer, Jeb studied at Queens College under the tutelage of Jimmy Heath and Sir Roland Hanna. His studies with Jimmy Heath led to a fantastic career opportunity, as Jimmy hired Jeb to play piano in the legendary Heath Brothers band — and Jeb will be playing with Jimmy this summer at SJW once again!
Jeb has also performed with Charles McPherson, Roberta Gambarini, Antonio Hart, Sachal Vasandani, Dmitry Baevsky, Winard Harper, as well as with his own trio. Jeb has also performed at jazz festivals, jazz clubs, and on the concert stage with a variety of luminaries and top ensembles including Percy Heath, Tootie Heath, the Jimmy Heath Big Band, George Coleman Quartet, the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni Big Band, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, Sax Appeal, Etta Jones, Jessye Norman, Barbara Cook, James Moody, Maurice Peress, Coleridge Taylor Perkinson, with the Broadway musical, After Midnight, and the New York Philomusica to name a few.
Jeb’s latest CD, Shades and Tones, was released in 2016 on the Cellar Live label. In 2009, Jeb recorded New Strides on the MAXJAZZ label.
