Jazz demystified

“In case [jazz wasn’t] covered as part of your liberal arts education, the Stanford Jazz Festival is there to help.”
—S.F. Examiner

“I consider Jim Nadel the #1 advocate for [jazz]. He’s one of the keepers of the flame.”
— Jimmy Heath

Jazz Inside Out with Jim Nadel & Friends

Jazz demystified

What makes jazz so special? What do jazz musicians think about when they play? Are you confused by jazz jargon? Perhaps you’re new to jazz and wonder how the musicians all play together without any sheet music. Maybe you’re a longtime jazz fan but still aren’t clear on what differentiates improvisation from the rest of the music. SJW Artistic & Executive Director Jim Nadel brings his horn and leads a band of top-notch players to illustrate enlightening explanations. For adults (and mature kids) who want to become a little wiser — and quite a bit hipper!

Personnel: Jim Nadel, alto saxophone
