la Cantor is a guitarist/composer from New York, who has performed and toured extensively within the jazz and contemporary improviser’s scene worldwide. As a student, she has trained with masters such as John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Ben Monder, Reid Anderson, Ben Street, and Guillermo Klein; and has played, toured, and/or recorded with such greats as Les Paul, Steve Cardenas, Rudy Royston, Aaron Parks, Matt Brewer, and Ab Baars among many others. She has been awarded grants from the Van Leir Fellowships and the Open Arts Foundation for merit in composition, and has recorded 3 full albums and an EP featuring her original music. She has also led several workshops, masterclasses, ensembles, and private lessons on jazz, improvising, guitar, and composition in institutions and private establishments internationally. Ila has been known to make music that challenges genres as she skillfully brings playfulness into sophisticated settings. Currently, she lives in the Bay Area where she enjoys artistic diversity and freedom.
