Jazz guitar heaven.
“[Peter Bernstein] is the most impressive guitarist I’ve heard. He plays the best of them all for swing, logic, feel and taste.”
–– Jim Hall
“There’s a disarming spirit of generosity in the musicianship of Julian Lage, and a keener sense of judicious withholding. A guitarist with roots tangled up in jazz, folk, classical and country music, he has spent most of his life bathed in a bright, expectant light.”
–– New York Times
Guitar Night with Julian Lage and Peter Bernstein
Jazz guitar heaven.
Two of the greatest guitarists on the planet – and that’s risking understatement – will meet on the stage of Dinkelspiel and make more jazz with 12 strings than will seem possible. Julian Lage, at eight the subject of a documentary about his prodigious talent, has become a startlingly inventive and intuitive master player, collaborating with luminaries like Gary Burton, David Grisman, Fred Hersch, and guitar legend Jim Hall. The same Jim Hall had this to say about like-minded virtuoso Peter Bernstein: “He is the most impressive guitarist I’ve heard. He plays the best of them all for swing, logic, feel and taste,” an appreciation echoed by subsequent employers Joshua Redman, Sonny Rollins, Lou Donaldson, and Diana Krall. These two musicians, a generation apart, share a rare genius for effortlessly exploiting a seemingly endless variety of musical styles from sizzling bebop to Indian ragas to swampy funk and having a great time doing it.
