Anat Cohen Quartet
The joyful whirlwind of the clarinet.
We’re so pleased this year to be able to share Anat Cohen with our fans. It’s more than the fact that she’s everyone’s Clarinetist Of The Year (as the Jazz Journalists Association has voted her for the last seven years). But she’s the whooping, soaring whirlwind of joy on stage that’s made her the beloved of musicians all over the world and caused her hero/collaborator Paquito D’Rivera to name her “one of the greatest players ever of the clarinet.” Born into the musical Cohen family of Tel Aviv – saxophonist Yuval and trumpeter Avishai make up the 3 Cohens Band – Anat’s effortless virtuosity and brio have been her all access pass to the crown jewels of jazz clubs and concert halls the world over. Truly an international musician, an Anat Cohen concert might include a Brazilian choro, a creolized New Orleans chanson, Artie Shaw swing standard, re-invented African grooves, and many surprises.
Personnel: Anat Cohen, woodwinds; Jason Lindner, piano; Joe Martin, bass; Daniel Freidman, drums
