Inside Jazz: I’ve Heard that Song Before: The Music and Life of Sammy Cahn, with Alisa Clancy (KCSM) - Sunday, June 30, 6:30 p.m., prior to Clairdee with Ken Peplowski
Of vocalist Clairdee, Nancy Wilson says: “In the tradition of all great vocalists, Clairdee infuses her own unique style while always remaining true to the song itself.” Mel Torme sings praises of reed man Ken Peplowski: “There have been too few clarinetists to fill the void that Benny Goodman left. Ken Peplowski is most certainly one of those few. The man is magic.” Expect a night of jazz and joy. From their instant simpatico—on a jazz cruise in 2008—vocalist Clairdee and clarinet and sax virtuoso Ken Peplowski have been making magic out of the music of the masters, and in this show, they explore the music of the great Sammy Cahn. Backed by a swinging rhythm section, this is what hearing Sarah Vaughan and Benny Goodman must have been like.
