Richard Scheinin, noted music writer and jazz authority for the San Jose Mercury News, has this to say on May 25 about the 2011 Stanford Jazz Workshop lineup:

"Stanford Jazz Festival: Every year, it's the same thing: dozens of concerts -- too much! I mean, who can choose? The 2011 season (June 24-Aug. 6) is Stanford's 40th, and it will feature numerous legends: Milton Nascimento, Allen Toussaint, the Heath Brothers. You're into trumpet? Wallace Roney leads a tribute to Miles Davis. You're into saxophone? Leather-lunged Joe Lovano will be on hand. Clarinet? How about Anat Cohen or Ken Peplowski? Vibes? Gary Burton. Piano? Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes, a dream duo. (They're even married.) Oh, you want edgy prog-jazz? Stanford has the Bad Plus, as well as the Scott Amendola-Charlie Hunter duo."
