Event Description
Scott Hamilton plays “more swinging, inventive, and hot tenor sax than anyone else on the scene today.” —Down Beat Magazine
With a resume that begins with Roy Eldridge, Jo Jones, and Benny Goodman, Scott Hamilton knows the jazz tradition and language inside and out. In the years since his time with those late, great artists, Scott has taken his full-toned tenor in wonderful directions of his own. Over 40 albums and as many international tours later, Scott is widely regarded as one of the most talented jazz artists in the world. For this special concert, Europe-based Scott teams up with his longtime Bay Area collaborator, pianist Larry Vuckovich, to present an evening of swinging excitement that features local favorites such as the velvet-toned vocalist Kenny Washington, burning trumpeter Erik Jekabson, and Latin percussionist extraordinaire John Santos. The Larry Vuckovich Trio is powered by bassist Jeff Chambers and drummer Chuck McPherson, whose combined credits include stints with the top artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Roberta Flack, Harold Land, Dizzy Gillespie, Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Benny Carter, Tommy Flanagan, and Joe Henderson — and that’s just scratching the surface. Expect an evening of jazz fireworks!
Joining us this evening is a very special guest emcee, the legendary political comedian, Mort Sahl. Mort is a huge fan of Scott Hamilton and jazz in general, and we're thrilled to welcome this Marin County resident to Stanford Jazz!
