Albert “Tootie” Heath
drums
Unquestionably one of the jazz greats, “Tootie” Heath has been teaching and performing at SJW for more than 25 years. Professionally, he first came to prominence in 1957 on recordings with John Coltrane, and since then he’s recorded innumerable times with legendary jazz artists such as Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson, Art Farmer, Cedar Walton, Dexter Gordon, Kenny Drew, Blue Mitchell, George Russell, Benny Green, Gene Ammons, Kenny Barron, and many more. With his tenor-playing brother Jimmy and bassist brother Percy, he formed the Heath Brothers in 1975, one of the classic jazz groups of all time. Jimmy and Tootie will be performing a special Heath Brothers reunion concert this season at the Stanford Jazz Festival.
